Paula Lerner

Freelance photographer and photojournalist, Paula Marie Lerner grew up in Hudson, Ohio, and graduated in 1983 from Harvard College where she met her husband Thomas Dunlap. The couple had two daughters. Among her projects were A Widow on Welfare, documenting the life of a single mother; Behind the Veil, a ground-breaking multimedia feature on the lives of women in Kandahar, Afghanistan, for which she won an Emmy in 2010; and Why We Walk: The Inspirational Journey Toward a Cure for Breast Cancer (2005). She was a founder of BPeace, a network of business professionals assisting entrepreneurs in conflict-afflicted countries to create employment opportunities. Lerner died of cancer in 2012 at the age of 52.
