Description: The Archaeological Exploration of Sardis Expedition began in 1958 as a collaboration among members from the Harvard University Departments of Fine Arts and Classics, Harvard's Fogg Art Museum, and the Cornell Architecture School with the support and permission of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Republic of Turkey. The expedition continues with annual excavations as a joint effort between Harvard and Cornell Universities. At Harvard, records of the expedition are primarily held at the Harvard Art Museums and the Harvard University Archives. The Sardis website contains essays and images regarding Sardis, the Expedition, the Lydians and their world, aerial views, the Temple of Artemis, the Altar of Artemis, and various other buildings and artifacts. Collected by the Harvard University Archives as part of the records of the Archaeological Exploration of Sardis Expedition.
