Description:

The Harvard University Archives is the oldest and one of the largest institutional academic archives in the nation.

The Harvard University Archives collects, organizes, preserves and provides access to a comprehensive record of more than 375 years of life at Harvard. From 17th and 18th century diaries and scientific observations to 21st century web sites, the Harvard University Archives’ collections comprise over 51,000 feet and 9 terabytes of University records and related historical materials.

This activity is tied integrally to records management services for Harvard University staff, administrators and faculty. Records management staff provide guidance and resources for all stages in the records and information lifecycle, from creating records through destruction of non-permanent records or transfer of permanent records to the Harvard University Archives.

This is a single capture of the earliest Harvard University Library website. The page was captured in 2014 before the server on which it resided was decommissioned. Information Technology staff found the page, untouched since 1996, and brought it to the attention of the Archives. Title: Interspecies Invitational Installation Featuring Hyptiotes veritas and the Harvard Spinnerets

Description: The Interspecies Invitational Installation website describes an art installation featured at Harvard University’s 375th anniversary celebration, on Saturday April 28, 2012. The Harvard Spinnerets, led by visiting scholar Sarah Kariko ’90, created a web in Harvard Yard near Widener Library; participants were invited to “weave” their own “truth” on Veritas ribbons: together with repurposed materials collected across campus, these ribbons formed a “celebratory tapestry.” The website features photographs of the event and participants engaging with the installation, and highlights arachnological contributions by Harvard-Radcliffe researchers. The inception of Occupy Harvard was marked by a rally, General Assembly, and march that were attended by approximately 800 Harvard students, faculty, and staff on November 9. This Occupy Harvard website, the second of two primary websites for the movement, was created November 11, 2011. It became the primary web presence of the Occupy Harvard movement. Harvests were taken at varying intervals (monthly, weekly, or daily).
