The Harvard University Archives is the oldest and one of the largest institutional academic archives in the nation.

The Harvard University Archives collects, organizes, preserves and provides access to a comprehensive record of more than 375 years of life at Harvard. From 17th and 18th century diaries and scientific observations to 21st century web sites, the Harvard University Archives’ collections comprise over 51,000 feet and 9 terabytes of University records and related historical materials.

This activity is tied integrally to records management services for Harvard University staff, administrators and faculty. Records management staff provide guidance and resources for all stages in the records and information lifecycle, from creating records through destruction of non-permanent records or transfer of permanent records to the Harvard University Archives.

Description: The Harvard University Department of Music is devoted to the study and practice of music, and exists to provide a first-rate music education that gives students advanced skills and knowledge of music history, repertory, and performance. As an academic department, the Music Department offers both an undergraduate and a graduate program. Undergraduates receive an A.B. with a concentration in music. Graduate students complete a Ph.D. program in historical musicology, ethnomusicology, theory, or composition. There is also a small A.M. program in performance practice, and a dual degree program in tandem with New England Conservatory where undergraduate students earn an A.B. from Harvard and a M.M. from NEC over the course of five years. The website of the Department of Music provides information on the scope of the department's curriculum, undergraduate and graduate programs, student music groups, the John Knowles Paine Concert Hall, faculty, staff, courses, events, news, studios, labs, publications, the history of the department, and PhD recipients (1956-present). Publications available online include the departmental newsletter (2000-present), The Organ in the Academy, and Harvard's Paine Hall: Musical Canon & the New England Barn.
