Description: The Banneker Institute is centered around a ten-week summer research andstudy program. Undergraduate students, primarily of color, are prepared for graduate programs in astronomy. The Institute's name comes from Benjamin Banneker, an accomplished 18th Century astronomer, surveyor, and almanac author, and a forefather to Black American contributions to science. The Banneker Institute website provides information on program details, staff, students, and events. Collected by the Harvard University Archives as part of the records of the Banneker Institute.
