The Harvard University Archives is the oldest and one of the largest institutional academic archives in the nation.

The Harvard University Archives collects, organizes, preserves and provides access to a comprehensive record of more than 375 years of life at Harvard. From 17th and 18th century diaries and scientific observations to 21st century web sites, the Harvard University Archives’ collections comprise over 51,000 feet and 9 terabytes of University records and related historical materials.

This activity is tied integrally to records management services for Harvard University staff, administrators and faculty. Records management staff provide guidance and resources for all stages in the records and information lifecycle, from creating records through destruction of non-permanent records or transfer of permanent records to the Harvard University Archives.

Title: Dorothy Shore Zinberg

Description: Dorothy Shore Zinberg (1917 -2020) was an American sociologist and biochemist. A founding member of the Kennedy School’s Center for Science and International Affairs (re-endowed in 1997 as the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs), Dorothy first came to Harvard as a research assistant and then a graduate student in biochemistry in the early 1950s. She received her PhD in the social science of medicine at Harvard in 1966 and taught in Harvard’s sociology department before becoming a lecturer in public policy at the Kennedy School. Dorothy Ginsberg's website provides biographical information, editorials and blog posts written by Dr. Ginsberg, video of her speaking, and her bibliography. Title: Drew Gilpin Faust

Description: Drew Gilpin Faust (1947- ) served as the 28th president of Harvard University from 2007 to 2018, the first woman in that role and the first Harvard president since 1672 without an undergraduate or graduate degree from Harvard. Faust received her bachelor’s degree in history from Bryn Mawr College in 1968, and her master’s degree and doctorate in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971 and 1975. For 25 years, Faust was Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania, before becoming the founding Dean for the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard in 2001. As dean, Faust worked to expand the institute into a wide-ranging multidisciplinary focus and creative enterprise that explored new knowledge in traditional fields. As Harvard president, Faust was known for expanding financial aid access across Harvard College, advocating for increased federal funding for scientific research, returning the ROTC to Harvard campus, and overseeing a record breaking $9 million capital campaign. Title: Dunster House

Title: Dying Speeches and Bloody Murders : Crime Broadsides Collected by the Harvard Law School Library

Description: The Harvard Law School Library's collection of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British crime broadsides dates from 1932 with the purchase from the London bookseller Marks & Company of a folio scrapbook entitled Executions of criminals: more generally known by the uninviting name of "Dying speeches." Acquired as a complement to the Library's extensive collection of eighteen- and nineteenth-century British and American trials, the scrapbook contained more than 280 broadside dying speeches, engravings, newspaper clippings, and holograph pages pertaining to sensational London crimes and executions primarily during the period 1820-1840. Additional examples have been acquired in the years since, making the Law School Library's collection of more than 500 broadsides one of the largest recorded and is the first to be digitized in its entirety. Through its variety of components, the Good Project investigates realms such as work (Good Work), civic participation (Good Citizenship), organizational collaboration (Good Collaboration), family life (the Family Dinner Project), conceptions of quality (Quality), higher education (Good Education), and the use of digital media amongst youth (Good Play). The Good Project has designed a range of public materials that concern and promote these “goods,” including toolkits, courses, and publications.
