Melpomene Institute for Women's Health Research

The Melpomene Institute for Women's Health Research was founded in 1982 by Judy Mahle Lutter, a national authority on the effects of exercise on women. Its mission was to bring cutting-edge health research to ordinary women and girls and to develop programs to engage them in leading healthy lives. Initiatives included publications and videos, conferences, 5K races, research studies, etc. Between 2007-2009, Melpomene Institute sponsored 14 projects among underserved women in Hispanic, African American, and Somali communities.
