Feminist and long time activist with the National Organization for Women and the Feminist Majority, Toni Carabillo (1926-1997) graduated from Middlebury College (A.B.) and Columbia University (M.A.). She was a founding member of NOW and of the Los Angeles chapter, and served on NOW's national board (1968-1977) and as national vice-president (1971-1974). With her lifelong partner, Judith Meuli, she edited NOW Acts (1969-1970) and the National NOW Times (1977-1985). Carabillo co-founded the Feminist Majority and the Feminist Majority Foundation with Eleanor Smeal, and was the designer of many of the pins and buttons of the feminist movement. In 1969 she co-founded, with Judith Meuli, the Women's Heritage Corporation, a publishing firm, and in 1970, they formed a graphic arts firm. Carabillo and Meuli were also the co-authors of The Feminization of Power (1988) and The Feminist Chronicles (1993).
Judith Meuli was educated at the University of Minnesota and worked for ten years as a research scientist. She later worked in real estate and graphic design, and as a writer. An activist in NOW since 1967, she served the Los Angeles chapter and the national organization in a number of capacities. In 1987 she helped found the Feminist Majority with Eleanor Smeal, Toni Carabillo, Peg Yorkin, and Katherine Spillar and served as its national secretary.
