Description: The Harvard Crimson Journalism Conference is a one-day event for high school journalists with all levels of experience. Participants attend seminars on different aspects of journalism led by the Crimson's editors and executives, panels on how to incorporate journalism experiences into college applications, as well as attend a keynote speech by an accomplished journalist followed by a Q&A session. Faculty advisors also have a chance to tour the building and participate in a roundtable discussion. The Conference is conducted in the Spring and Fall. The week-long Crimson Summer Journalism Academy provides an opportunity for students to work with Crimson staffers on various journalism-related skills, learn about the workings of a daily newspaper, and print a paper of their own at the end of the week. The inception of Occupy Harvard was marked by a rally, General Assembly, and march that were attended by approximately 800 Harvard students, faculty, and staff on November 9. This petition was active on the change.org website from November-December 2011. This online petition was directed at the Harvard Community and was created to show support for Occupy Harvard’s goal of challenging “the vast political and economic inequalities in the United States and around the world” and examining Harvard University’s “role in contributing to these disparities.” The petition reached 944 of its 1000 signature goal. Description: John Langdon Sibley, A.B. 1825, Grad. Div. S. 1828, served as Harvard's Assistant Librarian from 1825-1826 and 1841-1856, Librarian from 1856-1877, and Librarian, Emeritus from 1877-1885. A noted biographer, he is best known for his Biographical Sketches of Graduates of Harvard University. Sibley was born in Union, Maine on December 29, 1804, and died in Cambridge, Massachusetts on December 9, 1885. Sibley's personal diary spans nearly 37 years, with entries beginning on January 1, 1846 and ending on August 29, 1882. In it he recorded the details of daily life, often commenting on local and national current events, as well as Harvard affairs. Description: Dorothy Shore Zinberg (1917 -2020) was an American sociologist and biochemist. A founding member of the Kennedy School’s Center for Science and International Affairs (re-endowed in 1997 as the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs), Dorothy first came to Harvard as a research assistant and then a graduate student in biochemistry in the early 1950s. She received her PhD in the social science of medicine at Harvard in 1966 and taught in Harvard’s sociology department before becoming a lecturer in public policy at the Kennedy School.
